Uniden UM525 Speaker Question

Hi, hoping somebody with a Uniden UM525 vhf radio can help me out. The Rx audio is coming from the mic instead of the speaker on the front of the radio. I can't find anything in the manual or on google on how to switch it back. Also nothing in the radio's menu.
Anyone know the secret? Thanks in advance.
Andy

Re: Uniden UM525 speacker question

Hi, thanks for the link. Looks to be the same one i have that came with the unit. I've been through every page. No reference to this "feature" if it is one.

Did you figure out how to adjust this? My UM625 is doing the same thing.

Negative Maverick, that pattern is still empty! I just moved the mike hanger. Shure would like it fixed.

Re: Uniden UM525 speacker question

Here's the answer from Uniden.

Your Question:
Radio is only receiving from the microphone speaker. How do I set the radio to use both the microphone and internal speakers?

Our Solution:
Thank you for using our system.
Unfortunately there is no setting in the radio that would prevent the audio from coming through on the main internal speaker. Unfortunately the radio is no longer able to be serviced due to its age. Please let us know if you have a copy of the original sales receipt showing that you have had the radio for less than 3 years.

Re: Uniden UM525 Speaker Question

Wow... first i am thankfull that you took the time to contact uniden so these comments are not on you. But unidens response is lacking. Does the unit run audio out both so maybe the internal speaker is dead? Does it ever come out of the mike? Could someone modded the unit to re rout audio to the mike?
Well i guess were both left withy a mystery...

Oh yeah did yours always do this or did it change on you?

Re: Uniden UM525 Speaker Question

Audio came out of both until recently. Looks like adding an external speaker necessary now, or buying another brand VHF radio as a replacement.

Re: Uniden UM525 Speaker Question

Did anyone find a solid answer to this issue? I've a pair of 625C's with the same problem, which can't be blown speakers. Having searched several boards I'm betting Uniden has a physical internal speaker disconnect protection system which is engaged when the GPS/EXTSPKR cable is plugged in. Unfortunately, by making this a combo cable, if you want GPS NEMA data only we're still disconnecting the internal speaker. I've not yet unplugged this cable, but my assumption it's a permanent disconnect which can only be repaired by opening the case.

Unhappy with the response BNR222 received from Uniden I've posted another ticket. With two radios and four WHAM X units neither replacement or adding external speakers are preferred.

Posted to Uniden:
The internal speaker is not working, only the microphone speaker. Search of information suggests that when the GPS/External Speaker connector cable is connected to the radio the act of inserting the plug disables the internal speaker, even though it's being used for the NEMA data connectors only and not an external speaker. How do I get the internal speaker to function AND utilize the NEMA connections? I don't believe this is a blown speaker as it's common to both my UM625C's. If I unplug the NEMA/EXT SPKR jack from the radio will the internal speaker begin working? How do we return the function of the internal speakers on these units? Thank you for your help.
