Transducer Confusion for e7D. Ugh!

Ok. No one seems to know which transducer I need for my e7D display. The "D" version has a port to plug in a depth transducer for the fishfinder function. I've had two different ones that did not have the right connector and no one seems to have a solid answer. Neither does the Raymarine site. Since they don't seem to stock them it's a huge pita when they are wrong. Anyone here with an e7D know which one I need?

Hey Atoll.

No the e7D has a fishfinder built in, and also links with the radar's sea bird finding feature. All you need to do is add a depth transducer and plug it into the back of the unit and you're good to go. You can use one of their fancy sounder modules for even better performance, but the e7D has a built in digital sounder and if you add a $110 transducer you get you a great fishfinder right on the unit.

The. E7d has an integrated Fishfinder. It uses a variety of transducers

i think little devil thinks by adding a$110 depth sounder transducer he is going to get a $1100 fishfinder capable transducer.

Re: Transducer Confusion for e7D. Ugh!

No you don't need the network switch. The new e7D has the digital sonar built in. There is a port to plug in a transducer directly into the back of the unit. The e& just has a blank over that hole. Rep told me to buy the P79. Looks like I need to buy an adapter cable that's almost as much as the transducer to get the right plug that fits the e7D. I see there is a P74 that seems to work, so I wonder if there is some reason he recommended the P79. Maybe the P79 works better with the unit. Not sure.

Since I already have an airmar transducer similar to the P79 installed for my existing depth finder, I'm not sure I need a new one now. Hmmm. Maybe all I need is a cable...

Also, what about alarms? Do I need to buy a separate alarm, or would there not be an alarm in the unit? The instructions show wiring in one. I'm assuming that's for a secondary alarm, like for below decks?

maybe dave will chip in here!

but yes looks like a p79 with an adaptor will give you a fish finder.

i dont think airmar will link to raymarine gear

dunno about the alarm on the unit vs ext alarm

The P79 is an airmar adjustable transducer. I have the unit already. It just has a massive plug that won't go through the pedestal or plug into the e7D. I've not been able to find much about the new e7D online from people who have them installed, let alone the sounder module, other than one guy who's having problems with a locked sonar screen that requires reboot.

I guess I need to buy an alarm.

Yeah. Looks like the right one. Or the P74 TD. Even with the adapter cable though, the end won't fit inside the pedestal guard with radar and everything else in there. It would need to be longer. Hmmm..

you should be able to cut and extend the adaptor cable if done carefully and sealed properly, that way you will only need to push the wire through.

Re: Transducer Confusion for e7D. Ugh!

THis is an old thread but I thought that I would add a little data for those who are searching.

The P79 is an Airmar transducer that can fit the e7D and other MFD (c127) with built in sonar. The key here is that it comes in a few variants using the same transducer and differing cables. Raymarines version that has the correct plug for the e7D and like is A80170 and is WestMarine # 14395529

Of course you should check this out to be sure....

Regards
