Tracking Device

Looking into buying a tracking device for my small fleet.
Any recommendations?
If not for a specific product would like to know what features should i check the product has.

For trackers that transmit position back to a cellular or satellite system? It depends on if your boats go outside of cellular coverage.

I would look for a device that uses the Globalstar network. The SPOT would work but it requires the person on the boat to interact with the transceiver for it to work. My guess is you are looking for something that transmits the boats position automatically on a frequent and consistent basis.

I found a couple Globalstar based services by doing a Google search. I have not used either so I cannot vouch for them.

AeroAstro - Asset Tracking and Remote Monitoring Solutions

Worldwide GPS Satellite Tracker SX1

Globalstar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm curious, as well as others I would imagine. Would it be okay to ask for a few details about how you plan on using the tracker?

Thanks for the details.

I plan on having a 24 hour service as part of my safety offering for clients.

Therefor it is important that the sailor has no need for interference on his location.

The Caribbean 1500 has use fleet tracking for the past 2 years. The device automatically reports position every 12 hours or more frequently via Globalstar data (much more reliable than Globalsatr voice). See the carib1500 web site for details.

There is always the Yellow brick (iridium based). Their tracker is fine but their online interface sucks.

Does the Spot do something?

The RHKYC have been using purplefinder on their offshore races for the past 4 or 5 years.

Seems to be part of Welcome to Pole Star Global - Home

Try www.oceantrack.com.au

If it sounds like the right sort of thing for you, send me a PM and I will PM you the contact details for the guy who designed the tracking system and owns / runs the business.
