Thuraya @ Med

Hello,
I'm going to be doing some long sailing trips in the mediterranean and plan to purchase a satellite phone. The option I've been looking at is Thuraya, mainly because:

- I want to use my regular celullar SIMM card in order to receive calls to my number
- I don't need global goverage
- I don't need GSM usage so I don't need SO-2520 model

I'd like to get any opinions on this phone or also about SO-2510 (which is much cheaper & smaller, but older). My main concern is to be able to receive calls. I won't be using the phone too much but I do need to be able to be called anytime. On the other hand, having to wait a bit when I have to make the call is not critical. I have time… but as I have no first hand experience on Thuraya I'd like to here any real experience onboard specially if I can be sure that I'll get every incoming call without "user out of network" messages.

Another thing I'd like to know is the improvement in signal I can expect with an external antenna (is it worth). My boat is a 33feet sailing boat which already has VHT and HF radios and I don't want to fill it with more gadgets.

Thanks for any info,
Ignacio
