Re: The Marine iPad . . .

Besides for Navionics, iNavX does work with the NV Verlag raster charts of the Bahamas. Regions 9.1,9.2,9.3 are available from x-traverse.com. In addition to being downloadable into iNavX, a printed chart kit copy is available.

Here is how the charts look ..

Re: The Marine iPad . . .

That looks great!!! I want it, I want it. How do I download them into iNavx? Do they cover all of the Bahamas to Fla? I love your program, just not the Navionics.
Thanks
Glenn

You may be able to pair them, but you can not transfer files between the devices. Mr Jobs in his wisdom decided his customers are all criminals who are going to to use this function to illegally share music, but he conveniently ignored the fact this is possible with or without the useful bluetooth file / contact /syncing sharing features.

These charts look fantastic! Would anyone be able to shed some light on who produces them, where the data came from, and how accurate they are? I no nothing about NV Verlag...

BTW, this is from the website:

"When you order these NV.Digital charts from Fugawi X-Traverse for internet download, you have the choice of also receiving the charts as a Paper/Digital companion for only the added cost of shipping and handling.

The paper charts are presented in a handy, user friendly size (23½’’ x 16 ½’&rsquo. "

Here's the NV Charts homepage: http://nv-charts.com/

You can save $90 if you buy the whole Bahamas set at once...$150 for all!

Re: The Marine iPad . . .

X-Traverse sells the NV Verlag charts for Mac, PC, iPhone, iPad and iPod. More info can be found on the NV Website ..

NV CYC Charts

Recently Panbo had an article about the NV Team ..

Panbo: NV Charts: vector/raster paper & digital, US too

If you do happen to buy the CDs/Paper Chartkit from NV as opposed to just the download and/or paper ChartKit from X-Traverse you can still get the X-Traverse download here ..

Navionics Speed?

I downloaded navionics to my iPhone and the charts are great but I notice my speed over ground numbers jump all over the place and never seem right? ANy thoughts on this? Im guessing it has something to do with a lag in getting GPS info or something to do with cellular signals? I can be doing about 6knots and Navionics will show 2.5kts, 3.6kts,7.3k, 4.1kts,2.5kts, 7.5kts etc. jumping all over the place. Can anything be done to get a more accurate and stable SOG reading?

You should always mention which iPhone or iPad version you are running. The latest iOS on not latest idevices (any iphone other than 4) have serious performance problems, especially with the location services (GPS).

Re: The Marine iPad . . .

iPhone 4 and iPad 3G, iPad 2 3G GPS is significantly better (i.e. more accurate, sensitive) then older devices. The older devices are much more reliant on a 3G signal to get an initial fix.

Re: The Marine iPad . . .

So perhaps the speed numbers will become more usefull when I am in an area that does not have cellular service? ie offshore? Im thinking in that scenario the unit would be optaining its info directly from the GPS instead of trying to get it through the cellular network?

It's my understanding the cell is to speed up the time of the gps fix, once it has a gps fix it no longer uses the cell to locate it.

Re: The Marine iPad . . .

One thing to look at is the position error. Not sure if the Navionics app reports it, but that is useful to see how accurate the fix is. My experience is the iPhone 3/3GS GPS receiver is far less accurate or responsive as those found in the newer iOS devices.

Re: The Marine iPad . . .

I agree with navX, all devises mentioned sample the gps signal one time a second but something happens with the ram, processor, software that make some better than others. Dunno, don't have time to get nerdy here but the iPad works better for me than the iPhone 3G, some say the iPad 2 with dual possessors and more ram makes your location more precise, yea, maybe if your running several nav apps. my iPad 1 3g is decent, better than my hockey puck USB gps.
