After much screwing around and wasting money on useless apps, I ended up settling on ReaddleDocs.

I wanted it mostly for PDF documents (user manuals etc...) but it also works for word documents and powerpoint.

For a quick test I loaded and Excel file and it did display but with the 450kb spreadsheet I loaded it was very slow.

With ReaddleDocs there are several ways to get documents to the iPad. Add via itunes, create the iPad as a drive on your network for drag & drop, email attachments, download from the internet and downloading from various online storage sites.

The free iBooks app from Apple is a pretty good way to store and read pdf files now. I wish it had been out in the beginning because I wouldn't have wasted time and effort on a lot of poor apps that just don't really work.

hoppy's ReaddleDocs is a nice app especially if you need other file types. I'd like to see them come out with an iPad/universal app version to work across all devices.

Dropbox is a very useful app for viewing/transferring files on your computer to your iPad.

That would be AWESOME

sorry, just got a little overexcited.

Now I just need a boat to mount it on, might mount it on the lounge room wall in the meantime, nah that would be weird.

Re: The Marine iPad . . .

I'm one of the ones waiting on iPad2, but have been an iPhone user for a long time. I have the data plan on my (Jail broken) phone from AT&T and MyWi. I use it with my MacBookPro to get online while offshore. I use a GPS "puck" for position data to my Mac.

I ***THINK*** MyWi will tether both the MacBook and the iPad simultaneously, BUT can I also share position; data from the Mac to the iPad over the MyWi network? If so I can get the cheaper iPad.

Apple is announcing the new MacBooks this Thursday and possibly the 2nd generation iPad, if they do not combine both products at the press event thurs then the 2nd generation iPad announcement will follow within a week or two.

They did not increase the screen resolution for the new iPad btw.

It's just some minor upgrades that include a camera for FaceTime or web video conferencing plus some other new minor features / upgrades so if others dont care about the camera / minor upgrades (main upgrade) you can buy an iPad now on sale at certain retailers at a steep discount while they are clearing out their old stock, apple stores aren't discounting them, look for 3 rd party ipad resellers.

The big upgrades with a higher resolution display are scheduled for the 3 rd generation iPad.

Use it for the iPad 2, if your going to use it on your boat the screen is polarized (not increased with resolution) that will be better outdoors. I do not know if they are putting the gps chip in the wifi only version this time around but recommend you get the the one with the gps chip.
