We got the TackTick
wind instrument to avoid messing up the wires already in the
mast conduits. We bought it with the realization that there were
reliability problems and we just gambled that it would
work.
We tested it on the
dock before the
installation and of course it worked fine at distances much longer than the 50'
mast
In day to day use it usually works pretty well, sometimes for almost 24 hours without a glitch, but at other times it hangs repeatedly. I have not been able to isolate what interferes with it but have a few main suspects:
- The Blue Sky
solar charger
- The
Victron battery monitor
- The 2KW pure sine
inverter
- The wireless Mac
Laptop and/or
iPad
- Cell phones
- The Frigoboat
refrigeration
- Dockside wireless repeaters or hubs
We don't use
shore power so there is no shore
charger.
It is not one
single one of these items that causes
interference or I would have been able to isolate it. So I'm beginning to think there is background RF from maybe the
solar charger or
battery monitor that then gets added to by something else, like
WiFi.
I'm especially suspicious of the
WiFi because we're having more trouble here in the Marina de
La Paz marina than when we're out sailing. It would also make sense if the TackTick used the same RF bands as other wireless devices.
So, finally on to the question; what frequency (frequencies) do the TackTick units use and any suggestions for how I might track down the RF
noise sources and throttle them ?
Thanks,
-Sven
