Switching from Sailmail to Ham

Hello Cruisers

I just got my Ham radio license and want to activate my winlink account.


my current setup has worked fine - sailmail / Icom 802 / pactor / laptop - crossing the pacific but it seems I need a mentor to turn on my winlink account -

Seems to me that it explains the process pretty clearly, but if you have any specific questions after going through the steps there, then maybe we can help. Though you would probably get better and more specific help from one of the support groups listed on the winlink.org website.

If you've been using the Airmail program for your Sailmail account, you will want to configure Airmail for the Winlink system. Look here: Airmail Version 3 and here: Airmail Version 3 for Sailmail.

Airmail will now have both Sailmail and Winlink capability. You will find the Winlink station list available in Airmail. Just send a radio-email message to yourself via one of the winlink stations to get started (as is described in the Winlink web page in denverdOn's post above).

Before you give up on Sailmail, you should use Winlink for a while....

Winlink is a volunteer service provided by HAM radio operators throughout the world. It is a wonderful service provided free...

It is also because it it free, that it can sometimes be very unreliable.

Sailmail on the other hand pays for its stations, which tends to mean they are seldom down or overwelmed.
