Suggestions for current books on electric system

Greetings,

My "12 Volt Doctor Practical Handbook" 5th edition is woefully outdated.

I would appreciate suggestions for a manual/handbook/guide for a basic

guide to sailboat electronics, particularly one that covers newer battery options,

solar, inverters, LED fixtures, and the like.

Another option is to make my own manual using online resources, but this

would likely be time consuming, and finding reliable sources can be a challenge.

Many thanks in advance.

I would like suggestions for the best books on marine electrical systems too; electrical, not electronics. Specifically, the how-to of marine electrical systems.

For 12V? Rod Collins is the author of the attached schematic which is the best I know. Check out his website https://marinehowto.com

Re: Suggestions for current books on electric system

Thanks for the suggestions. And yes, my post should read "electrical" not
"electronics."

Following some of the threads on CF, I also found this useful posting that includes a list of sources. The ". . . Bible" is an older source, but gets excellent reviews. The Calder book also gets very good reviews on this list:

Meanwhile, I'm going to see what Amazon has to offer.

Electrical Systems 101
Please read all three pages, includes ideas about books.

For new battery technology, you'll most likely NOT find much in published books because the technology is too new. That's where internet research is needed.

LEDs? Go to any vendors' website and you'll learn more than in books.

The electrical section on this forum is among the best I've seen on boating forums: beginner to advanced with many qualified contributors.

Good luck.

Other than that, the link mentions release year 2002. Is that current in "your book" ? Oops, too many wordplays in one sentence...

And yes, I would also say, online sources are more up to date especially if you want to dig deeper on a specific topic, like LFP conversion or LED conversion.

E.g. https://marinehowto.com/ is one of many useful sources.

Wow, makes me wonder how many contradictions are between them all?

I wouldn't say there are too many contradictions, but there are certainly plenty of different examples on how to skin a cat, so it’s easy to see why we end up with disagreements in CF threads on the subject……..if you wanted you could probably figure out which book each poster is working from
