Re: Substitute for prop glyol in transduer

The actual liquid used is non-critical; what is critical is to eliminate any air bubbles/spaces which do not conduct the sound well. The problem with water is that it evaporates quickly, and can freeze. Glycol works and has less potential for pollution than petroleum oils. As posted above a thin layer of KY jelly or silicone sealant between the puck and hull also works well - just don't have air bubbles. Personally I would avoid the mess of oils no matter what...

I mounted my pucks onto pads that I made from polyester resin in order to get a horizontal surface, and they continue to serve well. The sonar signal travels well through the solid pads and the hull.

Re: Substitute for prop glyol in transduer

I just put car antifreeze in mine years ago and it has functioned flawlessly for years. What could be easier than that?
