stop H2O getting into VHF handheld ( Voyager )

I am aware there have been history of water getting into the Uniden Voyager handheld VHF.

Specifically, via the "speaker / mic " hole. this has only a small rubber cap that is easily & often out of place.

I never connect a " speaker / mic "

My question : what can I do instead?

I am thinking of filling the hole with some sort of "gunk "
a dob of clear silicon?
or some sort of grease?
Anhydrous lanolin?

suggestions, experience, comments welcomed

If you will never use the hole in question then don't' mess around. Go ahead and fill it with epoxy or 5200.
