Standard Horizon VHF intercom symbol

This is a silly little thing but it's driving me crazy. For the last couple of years we've used a Standard Horizon Matrix VHF/AIS set with a remote microphone. All that time, when we switched to intercom mode using either the main radio or the remote mic, both sets displayed a huge "IC" on their screens, to indicate intercom mode. The other day, both screens suddenly displayed "Intercom" in descrete little letters. No more "IC", no more recognition of the mode at a glance. I went to the manual and every mention of intercom mode shows the discrete little "Intercom" -- no mention of the huge "IC".

It's not a major problem, but it is an annoyance and it surely increases tremendously the chance that we'll call somebody on channel 16 when we think we're in intercom mode, or vice-versa.

Does anybody know how to get the "IC" back?
