ST50 / 60 Depth Compatible ?

Does anyone know if the new ST60 display head will work with an older ST50 transducer?

Well, since there's the ST60+ and the new ST70 color display, I wouldn't call the ST60 "new"...

There is some info at Raymarine's website, but you'd need to know which transducer you have. The old transducers had a 3-pin connector (not coax like my old Standard-Horizon DS-45), the ones for the ST60 are just bare wire (black/blue/screen) that you crimp a small spade connector on. Chances are probably decent it will work if you re-terminate the transducer cable. Caveat emptor...

There is only a few transducer vendors so I think the 60/50 are close enough. The rest of the differences relate to hull thickness and if it needs to slope (the hole not the transducer). The 70 could very well be different. The 50/60 speed logs I think are also interchangeable. I know Gord has a vendor that makes most of them but the web site name escapes me.

There's an incredible amount of information on the Airmar website.
Goto:
Airmar Transducers Home Page

Specifically:

Airmar B22 (Depth/Temp):
Form Response

Airmar ST800 (Speed/Temp):
Form Response

more ???

I've looked all over the existing xducer and can't find a single marking on it. It's a retractable unit and I've looked at all surfaces for markings - no luck.

Guess I'll just have to try it with an ST60 display head and see if it works...

I know this is a very old thread but I find myself in the same position. Any word on if the st60 display worked or not?

Re: ST50 / 60 Depth Compatible?

Hi Target9000, I have the same problem - My display heads are faded and its getting difficult to read the info. I have found someone on e-bay who does refurbish these units but none in stock at this time. Guess we'll just have to keep on searching !

Yes. My ST50 crapped out. Replaced with a used ST60 head and it works great.

Re: ST50 / 60 Tri-Data Compatible?

I was going to start a new thread, but this looks like it's pretty close to what I want to know...

Ocelot came with Autohelm (now RayMarine) instruments, ST50 series I think (black bezels, c.1995). The Masters (with transducers attached) are down below at the nav-desk, while repeaters are outside at the helm. I have them wired in 2 strings, masters on one & repeaters on the other, both strings feeding from the 2 Sea-Talk ports on our 400G autopilot brain. The 2 strings consist of (in order):
Masters: 400G, Tri-Data, GPS, wind, GPS antenna
Repeaters: 400G, ST6001+ control head, analog depth, wind, Tri-Data
Everything was working fine until the Tri-Data at the helm started losing its display. So I bought a new ST60 Tri‑Data slave, put it in, and … it won’t display anything. Not even zeros, just dashes. OK, maybe it’s a bum unit, so I go buy another one. Same thing.

I try reordering the Repeater daisy-chain to: 400G, Tri-Data, ST6001+, analog depth.
The analog depth continues to work, displaying the (digital) info from the Tri‑Data on the Master string. This information is now going THROUGH the Tri‑Data repeater, but it’s not being displayed there!

Anyone know what’s going on here (or, even better, how to fix it)?

I was assured by RayMarine that ST50 & ST60 units were compatible. How can the Tri-Data repeater forward the depth info down the string yet fail to display that depth info itself?

The plot thickens: I go buy a new ST60 Tri-Data Master & install it at the nav-station. Now the speed starts to read at the repeater, but the depth is still gone (just dashes) & even the analog depth doesn’t read anything sensible (the needle actually points straight down, where there are no numbers). Since depth is more important to me than my speed through the water, I put the old ST50 Tri-Data master back. But this seems completely screwy.

If anyone has any idea what’s going on, or how to fix it, or what I should try, please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

Re: ST50 / 60 Depth Compatible ?

Hi guys, I have the same problem with my old ST50 depth.
The display is nearly cooked, but still can figure out the number.
Before too late, I investigated the matter and there are different opinions:

1) ST60 depth display + ST50 transducer = OK;
2) NOT COMPATIBLE.

Really lost here, feels like a Fatima's secret.
Raymarine's site says they are compatible, although ST60 accepts 3 wires and ST50 only has 2.
I understand Raymarine's interest is to get people to buy a brand new and expensive set of instruments, but this is getting ridiculus!

Ahoy!
