ST4000+ Memory Loss

In addition to my SSB question, I have a question about the ST4000+ wheel pilot. Mine looses it's settings everytime I remove power. Everytime I power it up I have to re-enter the rudder gain and response curve. Of course Raymarine is more then happy to collect a couple hundred dollars from me to repair. I imagine this is probably just changing out an internal battery but I don't know for sure.

Anybody have any experience or thoughts?

Tom

I took out my ST5000 for the same reason, I could be under sail and for some reason the unit would go nuts and every time I would turn the unit on I had to reprogram it.

Maybe I should add that the ST5000 is a below deck hydrolic unit.

Not something I trusted at all.

Amytom,
I've never opened up a 4000+ but I'd bet you're exactly right.
I used to have an Autohelm LCD radar which wouldn't hold any settings, and that's what it was. You should probably look for a silver disc about the size of a quarter, and it's probably 3 volts. Most likely, it has tabs which are soldered to the board.
If you find it, try Digikey.com for a replacement.
