ST4000+ Issue

A friend of mine has a Raymarine ST4000+ autopilot and it is having an issue.

About 30 seconds after going to auto it displays "Low Battery" (might be "Low Voltage"). During this time the drive unit does not try to steer. You can alter the required course but it does not actually try to steer.

I have check the voltage at the panel and the feed into the head (both in standby and auto mode) and showed 13V nominal so it is getting the required power. When going to auto there is no voltage shown at the drive.

The unit feeds via the seatalk cable power to the other displays downstream from it and I also showed 13V nominal on those.

I suspect this is an internal issue to the unit but if there is something anyone can think of that might help it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: ST4000+ Issue

The "low batt" message is a common one on the ST4000+ and ST5000+. It is often caused by blown transistors or other bad internal components.

When in standby, do you get a motor response when pushing the + or - 10 button?

Re: ST4000+ Issue

No motor response at all.

Bad internal components is not a good thing.

Re: ST4000+ Issue

If it power up and all else is working, such as compass display, then it can probably be repaired. Send me a PM if interested in repair.
