SSB Antenna Tuner Question

I am looking at replacing my SEA 222 with a Icom m700, I am using a SEA 1630 Antenna tuner. Question is how do I hook up the control wires to the tuner. Things seem quite a bit different from the Icom and SEA radios. Best I can figure I just supply 13 VDC to the tuner from the Icom and I have no tune indication? I could live with that if I am comfortable the tuner is working, From what I can tell I could just install a light using the tuned gnd out of the tuner. That might solve the tuned indicator issue. Does this sound right to those who know more about this than I do?

Thanks

Yep, that will work. I have an M710 in my shop using an SEA 1612 which also has the gnd tune output which I just connect to a red led mounted near the radio.

I have the operator 28 page M700 pro manual - page 15 deals with connecting
the control wiring to the optional tuner Icom AT 130. One should be careful connecting the SEA 1630 to that tuner control connection.

Yeah I saw that and that is why I was just thinking of using the power supply only pin 3 I think that would be. Unless somebody knows something I missed

Thanks

SEA 1612 and ICOM 718

This topic is timely for me as my SEA222 just died and I have an ICOM718 on the shelf. But I'm no techie... Can you be more specific with instructions on how where to take 13VDC out of the back of the ICOM and to the tuner? And where is the "tuned ground" from the tuner that I can wire a light into? Is this just the ground lug of the tuner? Thanks for any help.

Regards, John

there should be 3 wire from your tuner, 13 VDC input, ground, and grnd when tuned or TND, The 13 VDC comes from the antenna tuner plug on the icom check the back it should say DC out for the correct pin. Connect the dc out to the 13 VDC in on the tuner. I connected a small light to the dc out positive and the TND wire from the tuner. Works as i just finished hooking it up about 20 min ago lol.

Good luck

Re: SSB Antenna Tuner Question

We have an SEA system, but, my bro tried to send the signal up the inside of a mast to a masthead antenna not understanding that the feed wire was itself part of the antenna, damaging the antenna tuner. I need to find a service manual for the automatic antenna tuner as I think the only failure is in the bypass capacitors which were vaporized (of course) along with some burned PC board material.

Re: SSB Antenna Tuner Question

That is a hard one as there are no markings on the antenna tuner. As I recall, the basic HF is a 222.
