Simrad nsc8 chartplotter, charts to use and how to add them to chartplotter

Hi everyone, I have a Simrad nsc8 chartplotter, and are needing to add charts for the Atlantic and Pacific. I have downloaded the Pacific charts from a New Zealand site but are unsure if they will work on the Simrad. The file extention is (. Kap)
I have tried saving them on a SD card and inserting it into the card slot provided, but the Simrad does not seem to see them. Anybody got any answers on this one, really be most happy for any info on this problem.

As far as I know, all chartplotters require you buy charts from the maker or at least in a compatible commercial format to use them on the plotter. To use free, publically available charts you will probably have to go with a PC based nav program.

One reason chart plotters and the makers annoy me and it seems, quite a number of other boaters.
