Simrad Is20 insrument package

Hi anyone have good or bad comments about the Simrad IS2O display and transducers, I believe they gave trouble in the first batch that came into production, I see a big supplier is offering these as a package at a good price and was wondering if they were worth trying, your comments good or bad would be appreciated, thanks in advance

Re: Simrad Is20 insrument package

We've had little trouble with ours for the past three years. My BIG complaint is that when the shallow alarm triggers, it blots out everything on screen INCLUDING the depth reading to display a flashing "Shallow alarm" message. I have the scars on my keel to prove that is one dumb idea and they should've went with the next highest bidder when designing the software on that one.

The other thing is the flap door fell off the triducer pretty early in the piece. Makes swapping the transducer for the blank somewhat more exciting than it should otherwise be, but can't hold this against Simrad as the triducer is a third party unit shared with other instrument manufacturers.

Re: Simrad Is20 insrument package

This is the sail package you are referring to, right?

I bought this about 4 years ago.

The wind instrument is really excellent. I like the totally analogue display. For wind display, this works great. They have got the signal processing and damping spot on.

The triducer works fine for speed and depth, but some people have had problems with the flap. Mine has been OK. The one I replaced had no flap anyway. Keeps life exciting!

I sold the IS20 MFD as I already had a Garmin GMI 10.

At the price this kit is selling for, it's a good deal.

Suggested fix for the depth display when the alarm goes off, is to network to the chartplotter via NMEA 2000 and display depth on that.

One cool feature you get is that the wind display will use the chartplotter info on the NMEA 2000 network, to calculate and display true wind.

Re: Simrad Is20 insrument package

Bought this set from Defender for $599 a few months ago. I'm sure they'll do a similar price with one of their monthly sale. When I received it, I was surprised that it came with three displays...wind, multi function and a speed/depth display. It wasn't clear in the ad, but was a nice bonus.

I originally was going to by just the wind transducer for $475, but then saw this entire set-up for just $125 more. You wont find anything close to this for this price.

Correct. These are old fashion grey screen displays (they are at least nmea2000). But, even on the used market, you'll never touch a deal like this.
If you want the new displays, they can be added and you'd still save money.
