Re: SEA 2250 SSB

I completed a roundtrip from Neah Bay, Washington State to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii May-July 2016 and used the SEA 2250 SSB radio for daily position reports to the Pacific Seafarers net 14.300 Mhz and obtain NOAA weather faxes. Before I left I was unsure how well the radio would work as local testing was not very positive on transmissions...reception were good. I had taken the radio to the manufacturer (SEA Comm Corp, 7030 220th St. SW Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043) for service and was given a thumbs up on its working. I had been told by others that SSB would work better offshore but was dubious.

Offshore the radio worked GREAT. With every transmission I asked how my transmission was being received and was told that my SSB transmission were the best they had received.

By the way I was using a KISS-SSB ground plane system counterpoise and I'm sold on it.

Re: SEA 2250 SSB

It's super when it just works like that! You must have sprinkled black magic dust all over the installation. A group of us returning from Hawaii could not figure out how one day's reception would be good for one boat, but then bad the next day. One boat's reception was always light. Another was great all the time. "Black magic" was the only consistent theme....

Never underestimate the value of ‘black magic’, and the danger of ‘evil spirits’, nor the importance of ‘grey smoke’ (which must be kept within all elect’ devices - never let out.)
