SCM Anchorages

My iSailor charts for Australia on iPhone show many pink anchors with the letters scm, can anyone explain this? There are also plain black anchors too so I’m wondering about the label. They are often shown with a green border.

See pic below, which shows both

Bingo!

Now, does that classification actually mean there are mooring devices present? Or...?

Re: SCM Anchorages

Normally yes. It does not mean that they are publicly available, but there will be moorings or piles there.
Moorings are regulated by each state, so the rules differ depending where you are.
In our experience so far there will often be some room left to anchor.

Cool thanks,
I have been seeing them as general anchorages and have always had room to anchor.

The Way, check the depth. May not be appropriate for your vessel.

Copy that, I always do.

But interesting thought, that a place with designated moorings might cater to boats with designated drafts (small power boats for instance)... unlike the general anchorages.
