Satellite subscriptions, which country to buy from?

Does it matter which country you should buy an Iridium or Inmarsat prepaid or post paid subscription from?

For most people buying in your home country is probably best, but for me it's not so clear.

I'm from Australia, live on my boat in Greece (and eventually beyond), live the last 15 years in Sweden and still maintain legal residence but will move back to Aus, possibly by sailing. On top of that, due to my past work, I have bank accounts in Sweden, Aus and the UK.

So for me, it feels like I can shop around by country for the best deal.

Because my boat is Swedish and my Epirbs are registered there, I will be giving the Swedish authorities my number. However realistically most of my incoming or outgoing calls will be to Australia.

In one way it's easier whilst in Europe to just get a UK or Swedish subscription, I wonder if an Aussie subscription would give me better usage pricing?

I think iridium is American so the American supplied deals will be the best. We used satphonestore. They will post the sim anywhere. I think I noticed that you can now call 000 Australia on iridium without a sim in the phone. This seems to be a very good safety feature.

True I think - only exception was when die US$ was much weaker against the Euro , to that time I often found better deals in Germany (paying in Euros) for instance.
