Satellite phone unused prepaid minutes

Hi y'all . I could use some opinions on what to do about sat phone minutes.

We live in the US except in the winter. In 2009 we purchased an Iridium sat phone with prepaid 5000 minutes / 2 year plan. It got used mainly the 1st 2 years. Last year (3rd year) I paid $480 to keep our 3000+ minutes from expiring but we used it once after that. This year we are wintering in FL so we'll have our cell phones.

Even though having a sat phone for emergency is useful I'm not sure its worth paying $480 yearly to keep the minutes active when we're not using it. But I'd hate to just lose them when someone else can use them.

What are our options? Do we keep the phone and pay the yearly fee? Do we sell the phone? Can we keep the phone and sell just the minutes? It's a lot of time! The minutes will expire again in Nov. 2012 if not extended.

Thanks in advance!
