Re: Running Wires Outside of Pedestal and not in Pedestal Guard

This discussion reminded me of what I did when I needed to run control wires for my electric propulsion system to the helm. You can see how I did it here:
THE BIANKA LOG BLOG: RUNNING WIRES TO THE HELM
It has come in very convienent to add addition wiring to the helm location. I've got a few more projects to add there yet. But, it will be much easier than if I had tried to run the wires through the pedestal.

Re: Running Wires Outside of Pedestal and not in Pedestal Guard

I have the wires in the pedestal and then drilled an exit hole in the compass housing with grommet and normal wire wrap from there to instruments. Never had a problem with it. There is a fair amount of room in the pedestal. Issue is routing to stay clear of chain. Never had a problem with power disrupting compass and i have checked this.

Re: Running Wires Outside of Pedestal and not in Pedestal Guard

I prefer to just tie the wires to the pedestal with those plastic pull ties. That way if I ever need slack to work on an instrument, (more likely the autopilot in my case). It's simply a matter of snipping the plastic tie and replacing it.

Re: Running Wires Outside of Pedestal and not in Pedestal Guard

I have come up with a really neat solution.

I did a mockup for the customer and he was very impressed.

Will post pictures when completed
