RTL-SDR

Has anyone had experience in using RTL-SDR to upload and download weather, ham, and AIS etc directly from satellite,

RTL-SDR is a recevier, There is no uploading of anything. Also RTL-SDR come in a number of frequencies ranges. Some cover HF, some higher freq, some will cover satellite freq. Still need a good antenna some computing resources to actual receive/decode the signals.

One can transmit with a half duplex receiver/ transmitter box, usually cost three hundred bucks and up, basic dongle covers 500 kHz to 1.7 gHz however one can reach much higher frequencies by installing an 'upconverter, between the antenna and the dongle,
