Rogue Wave or Bitstorm Bad Boy or ??

We want to amplify the wifi signals we receive at marinas or at anchorage. Looking at details of systems by several manufacturers.

Anybody used either of these or another one on the West coast?

How about Mexico or Polynesia?

Worth the $350 - $400 cost?

Get a T Mobile hotspot instead?

All feedback appreciated.

Re: Rogue Wave or Bitstorm Bad Boy or ??

I would check out Island Time units. We installed one of his groove antennas with a router. Have been very pleased with it and Bob's service is over the top. One of the few vendors that get 10 stars. Currently using it as I reply to you sitting in the Marquesas.

Good luck with your choice.

Chuck

Re: Rogue Wave or Bitstorm Bad Boy or ??

Linda,
1) I will second the recommendation for Island Time PC and their Wi-Fi systems!!!
Bob is not only very knowledgeable about all of this, and VERY supportive of his units/customers, but also a sailor and part-time cruiser as well!!
Absolutely super guy to do business with!!!

Marine WiFi Systems

Also, most of these systems these days are either Ubiquity Bullet based, or Groove based....and it's the programming / set-up that Bob does that sets his systems apart from many of the others...simply plug-'n-play!

2) (the Rouge Wave is like Bob's older Ubiquity based units...which do still work, as I'm using one!)

3) And, since the folks at Bitstorm are no longer shipping/supporting anything, I think it's a non-starter!
Here is a quote from their website:
Quote:
To our customers: Starting October 5th and through mid December, a traditionally slow business time, Bitstorm staff
will be taking a well deserved break with extended holidays. Telephone Sales and Support will be unavailable. Email
Sales and Support should remain available and may be limited with longer response times. You can find answers to
many common issues in our Knowledgebase and FAQ sections and our 24 hour self help telephone support system.

Ant orders placed will be shipped when we return in December. We apologize for any inconvenience.

4) Many cruisers in Mexico find a local data plan / dongle to work very well for them....but still having a good Wi-Fi system (for the minor cost of $200 - $300), is a very good thing to have on-board!!!

I hope this helps..

John

Re: Rogue Wave or Bitstorm Bad Boy or ??

I'am on the upper Mississippi River the marina wi-fi sucks, they have Blue Sky satellite wi-fi. I got a Rogue Wave unit for my wife on her laptop, she can get a very usable signal when I have to turn off wifi on my iPad and use 4G or LTE. It was well worth the the cost to keep the Admiral happy.
