Replacing Robertson Autopilot Marpa Output, etc.

hi
I want to replace my old robertson autopilot with a raymarine.its still working good but is very old and it doesnt give me any rudder reference. I have a new garmin 4012 and i would like to interface it with the the raymarine unit is it possible to use the heading sensor info for marpa tracking. I am also a bit confused about which system to buy I want to use the existing canada metal octupus ram and robertson pump.do I need the x-sol core pack? Thanks to anyone who can give me some advice.

Go easy now ,in my opinion ( 30 years delivering) you now have the best autopilot you will only know that the second or third day off the hard weather. I have raymarine on my boat it is good but not as reliable as the robertson. can you not keep the robertson wired in but switched off both hydraulicly and electrictly .a simpel rudder centering indicator can be made with a microswitch and a light bulb . or you can send me the old robertson HA HA Ole

Before you decide on Raymarine, look at the Simrad AP 24, especially for integration of other than Raymarine products. Chuck

I went from Robertson to Simrad, and though the UI is a little fiddly, it's been rock-solid. Getting rid of the ancient continuous-running pump was also a huge improvement.

The Robertson compass sensor input is analog (sine-cosine), though you can get a box from Comm-Nav that will interface that to modern tools...
