If you have an EU registered
boat fully equipped with EU compliant
electronics and you
import it into
Australia, what
electronics have to get replaced and what are ok for Aussie authorities?
For the sake of the discussion, assume that all of the EU
gear is new, compliant with
current CE
certification.
I assume that the items that may or may not cause an issue will be anything with a transmitter, such as an
EPIRB, personal
EPIRB,
VHF with
DSC,
SSB,
AIS transceiver and sat
phone.
Obviously, any item that has an MMSI number requires reprogramming.
I know that in Aus the EPIRBS must use 406MHz, so is reprogramming the MMSI on an EU 406MHz all that is needed to keep Aus happy?
I assume or at least hope that the
AIS transceiver should be ok as hopefully everywhere transmits on the same frequency?
I have no idea whether an EU
VHF or
SSB could be registered in Aus. The VHF is so
cheap it could be replaced but I'd hate to invest in an SSB and find out that they don't like it.
I assume that an
Iridium or Inmarsat satphone would be ok.
What are people experiences with this?
