Raytheon RL9

I have this system currently with a B&W display. It is coupled to an older garmin GPS with no mapping capabilities. I would like to upgrade to a color display that will aslo act as a chart plotter, etc. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Hi Mike, I have the RL9 on my Beneteau First 375, both the radome and the display. The previous owners of my boat installed the display down below at the navigator's seat. It would be much more useful at the helm. Do you know if it is sufficiently waterproof to install in the cockpit? Where/how is yours installed? Were you able to find a new chartplotter that works with the radar dish? I've always assumed that it wouldn't be compatible with any other displays but I don't know.

Raytheon RL9

Joe,

Mine is at the helm. It is in the picture it is on the center at the top of the pedestal guard. There are no issues since it was installed by the PO circa 1995.

Everyone I have talked to says the raydome is not compatible with the newer chart plotters. I have resigned myself that I will upgrade the whole system in a year or 2 and sell the current parts for someone to use as spares.

Thanks fo the reply,

Mike

Pedestal wiring

Mike, thanks for your message. Defender has on clearance sail an edson pod for the RL9 so I suppose I could get that--probably the same as what you've got in the picture. One more question though, if you don't mind: How is the wiring done on yours, is it through the pedestal? My port pedestal rail already has wiring for the chartplotter and wheelpilot so there's not much room left and the starboard pedestal rail has the throttle controls and is hard to disassemble anyway. Any suggestions? I'm attaching a picture--you can see the two wires for chartplotter in port rail (I've replaced the wheelpilot in the picture and it now has a wire going into that rail as well).

Joe,

My throttle and shift are on the pedestal itself so the wiring for the radar is in the starboard tube of the pedestal guard and the wiring for the other pod, with wind, depth, speed, & GPS is in the port tube.

Mike
