Recently came into a store credit at Amazon and am considring the St40 wind instrument.

I went to the Raymarine site for more info and in product description is states "This system is designed for powerboat use"

Call me confused. I have ST60 speed and depth already and description says seatalk compatible so would be a nice gift to get true and apparent wind from the system. ST60 wind is a little over budget and a little fancy for my boat as well.

Anyone with experience on the ST40?

Re: Raymarine ST40 Wind Experience

I mounted one on an O'Day 25 and it worked great. I was more concerned with wind speed than direction, however it seemed quite accurate for both. Anemometer also takes less space (we mounted on masthead). All ST40 and ST60 parts are compatible, so you could mix and match if you wanted to replace the display later on.

Re: Raymarine ST40 Wind Experience

I've been looking at these as well and wondered about the statement in bold type that it is meant for power boats. The 20m cable makes it unusable for my boat, but I can't understand why it would not be appropriate for a smaller sailboat.
