Raymarine SmartController and SeaTalk NG

I've not found this topic, sorry if this question has been already answered.

I have on a seatalk NG network (STng): DST800 + wind vane + 2 ST70 instruments + ST70 AP controller + SPX5.
I wish to use the S100 smartcontroller to read the STng data and to remote control the autopilot.

When I connect the S100 base station on the SPX5 via SeaTalk1 (ST1), I get only the autopilot data. Wind, speed, depth are not available on the S100 dispay.

When I connect the S100 base station on the 2nd port of a ST70 instrument using a 3 way ST1 junction block with the STng /ST1 cable provided with the ST70 instrument, NO information at all is available on the S100.

It seems the ST70 instrument only listen the ST1 network and repeat on the STng but does not repeat the STng data to the ST1 network.

Can s.b. confirm this bad news ? and second question, hopw can I get the S100 the wind, speed, depth data available on the STng network ?

Thanks a lot for your assistance and a bottle of Ricard for the one who wish to join me near Toulon, after this problem is solved.

Gilles.

s100 does not display wind, speed and depth. The smartcontroller does. Whisch one do you have? There are two types.

St70 will not do Seatalkng to seatalk is only one way.

Really you need rays seatalkng to seatalk bridge. If your seattalk bus is from your autopilot very little data is copied onto it.

Really Rays needs a seatalkng smart controller. ( which can't be far away. )

Re: Raymarine SmartController and SeaTalk NG

RAY is selling a SeaTalk 1 to SeaTalk ng Converter Kit E22158, explaining that it "allows select SeaTalk 1 devices to interface and communicate on the Raymarine SeaTalkng data network"

Anybody knows if it is a one way only (ST1 to STng) or if it allows real "communication" ?

Ray mentions this device allows " selected " seatalk devices to interface avd communicate with seatalkng. Really you need to ask Raymarine. Squirt them an email.

Re: Raymarine SmartController and SeaTalk NG

That's done. The answer is very concise "Yes, it should." I would have preferred something more affirmative (don't want to send 100 bucks in addition to the smartcontroller for s.t. that might not work ...)

Thanks for all your help..

Re: Raymarine SmartController and SeaTalk NG

There are two methods of getting both Autopilot control and Instrument data on your Smart controller...
Option 1;
You were nearly there when you connected the smart controller into the back of the ST70 instrument, as the ST70 Can bridge instrument data (depth/speed/wind etc...) from STNG to Seatalk1, for the Smart Controller. To enable this "bridging" mode, there is a setting under advanced options (i recall from memory) called "MASTERSHIP". Set "Mastership" to=ON and the ST70 will start to bridge between STNG and Seatalk1. However, the Seatalk1 from the Base Station of the Smart Controller ALSO has to be connected directly to the SPX5 Seatalk1 port, in order to get Autopilot control on the Smart Controller, as the ST70 does not "bridge" Pilot commands.
The option is a bit "messy" in my opinion, have a read of option 2...
Option 2;
Simply buy the STNG to Seatalk1 Converter and link the Seatalk1 Base Station into this "converter" once it is wired into your STNG backbone. Then, as long as BOTH the converter and the SPX have the latest software versions, you will have full control of the Autopilot, and Full instrument data from the Smart Controller.

Good Luck.!
