I have a Raymarine PC/SeaTalk/NMEA interface box E85001 that interfaces from SeaTalk1 to both my PC RS232 and a NMEA connection. Then an i70 instrument that can display data from both SeaTalk1 and ST ng.

Actisense makes a ST ng to NMEA 0183 gateway NGW-1-STNG. You would require one of these for each NMEA device you wish to connect.

Re: Raymarine SeaTalk, 1 ,2 ,ng wiring crossreference

Hi Bob and Connie.
Hi, does anyone know the pinout for the 4 wire seatalkNG backbone cables?
We have the pinouts for the 6 wire seatalkNG spur cables.
Cheers from Keith

Here is a cross reference I put together after disassembling some NG and ST2 cables.

All works.
Cheers
Bob

Thanks Bob!
An excellent chart of the different connections.
Do you happen to know the pin outs for the seatalk NG backbone cable, it only has 4 pins?
Cheers from Keith.

Keith,
Updated to include the backbone. Raymarine actually posted this in the FAQ section!

Happy Sailing!

8 years on, this is still brilliant.

Begs the question what's the difference between seatalk2 and seatalkNG?

Seatalkng carries nmea 2000 and original Seatalk signals, Seatalk 2 is just nmea2000

Thanks for he recognition!
I am still battling with Raymarine communications.
Never managed to get my AIS to display on my i70 multifunction display despite installing an Actisense dedicated interface. Some mysteries still remain.

Hey I have a Simrad AI50 AIS I’m trying to connect to a seatalkNG backbone. There do not appear to be any cross over cables available for simnet to seatalkng.

Do you know which colour cables on simnet match the seatalkng so I can splice the two cables together?

Hi,

The Simrad AI50 is NMEA0183. You need a converter from NMEA0183-AIS to NMEA2000/SetalkNG.

Either from Actisense or if you are willing to build it by yourself, you can use my solution on GitHub: https://github.com/AK-Homberger/NMEA2000-AIS-Gateway

Regards,
Andreas

Oh I thought the Simrad AI50 does send data over NMEA2000. From researching the unit i found the below thread which listed all of the NMEA2000 PGNs the AI50 sends.
https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...000-54688.html

Perhaps i understood this wrong? I remember reading the AI50 manual and it also mentioning NMEA2000 compatibility, when I'm back on the boat i will need to reread it on the weekend.

Thank you for replying this has been a headache trying to find information, there does not seem to be much on the AI50 unit and integrating it onto a SeatalkNG backbone.
