Raymarine RL80 and L760 dont talk anymore

Hello guys ,

I have a RL80 pathfinder display on board and inside a L760 connected via seatalk and hsb2 .
Very handy , having access to a sonar outside and map/radar inside.
Atleast untill recent , for one reason or the other the 2 displays dont talk anymore. Meaning , the RL80 does not find the sonar and the L760 doesn' show the maps.
Data been giving through seatalk from the outside instruments like wind , depth is visible on the L760 but there seems to be a prob with the data passing the HSB2 channel.
I've measured the hsb2 cable (and also the seatalk cable to be sure) and that is ok.
I've performed a factory reset on the RL80 with no luck.
No reset yet has been done on the L760 though.

Could anyone recognize , or help me out with , this issue ?

Thanks in advance,
Kind regards

Re: Raymarine RL80 and L760 dont talk anymore

Me again , i continued my research on the net and also on my instruments and found something strange.
First of all let express that the units where working fine together in the past.
Of what i've read on the raymarine help forum it seems the units need the same software version in order to link up. V 4.11.

After checking the version on my RL80 patfinder plus which is V 4.11 , i also checked the one on the L760 (color display bytheway) and was astonished ,.......V 3.22 !
How can that be ?
In the past both units where operating together just nicely , i never checked the software version on the L760 though , but if i understood everything right both must of had the V 4.11 installed.
Now I'm left with V 3.22 on my L760 ?!
Is it possible the sofware upgrade of this display was lost some moment in time ?

Strange , really strange.

Kind regards

Re: Raymarine RL80 and L760 dont talk anymore

I suspect unfortunatly is probably a hardware problem.Raymarine do advise that the software needs to be the same, but this only seems to be an occasional issue and the previous correct function suggests that the software version is not likely to be the problem.

I am not familiar with the L760, but you have not mentioned the Hsb2 line terminator. Is this installed? Do you check it was functioning OK?. I think it just puts a set resistance between a couple of pins, but you will have to goggle it.

Double check all the pins for signs of slight corrosion.

The next step is to open up the units and look for obvious problems.

Re: Raymarine RL80 and L760 dont talk anymore

Hello Nolex ,

Thanks for the reply.
I did check the cables and they are all ok.
I was hoping someone has had the same prob.or knows some more about it .i've used the search function and know sure there are some experts on the matter on this board.
Unfortunatly as a non US resident I cannot access the raymarine help board anymore . They redirect us to local dealers who dont always have the time to answer all these questions.

Regards

Re: Raymarine RL80 and L760 dont talk anymore

Have you tried raymarine.ning.com ?

I have an RL80c and a L755, and when I hook the HSB2 cable the maps from the 755 appear on the RL80, but, then the 755 can not see the depth anymore... HUH?? go-figure

Re: Raymarine RL80 and L760 dont talk anymore

Bobs,

The first thing to check on HSB2 is the termination resistors at each end. I don't have my manuals handy but I think they are 150 ohms. The manual may explain this. Without terminations it doesn't work all the time.

Re: Raymarine RL80 and L760 dont talk anymore

@ Gilana , what's the software version on your L755 ?
If it' s the 4.11 I could be out the woods by having the proper software installed

@Transmitterdan , as soon as I have the chance I wil check the resistance and will an answer here .

Thanks for the respons so far.
Regards
