Raymarine (old) C80 crashes

Beginning a couple of years ago, but now with increasing frequency, my C80 crashes and the only way to get it working again is a FACTORY RESET... which wipes out all setting, tracks, waypoints etc. returning the unit to its "original" state.

The result is I enter one waypoint at a time instead of finding an old one which was stored in memory in the waypoint library. It's an annoyance but not the worst thing.

More importantly is why??? Is this something that newer software will fix? It worked fine for 10 yrs or so... and it doesn't interface to the www.

I probably should replace.... but I do not like touch screen interfaces. I prefer buttons, dials and soft keys.... AND an intuitive interface for sailors not computer geeks. I have a B&G T7 and am not thrilled at all with the user interface or the touch screen stuff.

Please comment. Thank you!

Assuming this isn't the power supply being interrupted temporarily and you have a nice big fat wire feeding the power supply rather than bell wire, then have you installed the last software update? 5.16 I think from memory. You will need the right sized card too.

even if you have the newest software on the plotter you should reinstall it. it could be the issue. corrupt data.

Re: Raymarine (old) C80 crashes

We had similar problems and I think it had to do with the amount of data I was storing in it. We had bunch of stuff and perhaps there is limited storage capacity - I have no idea but after a couple of times I wipe out tracks after using them and try to keep the waypoints I have down a bit and wipe them out after I am well past the point I may use them again.
Just a guess but it has not failed now for a while -- knocking on wood
