Raymarine MFD heading frozen

Hi brains trust,
The new to me C90W multifunction display heading and boat icon have frozen at a fixed heading so it looks as though my vessel is traveling in reverse at a 40deg angle.
The track and vessel position are correct and the autopilot heading is accurate. Any ideas? Thanks

Re: Raymarine MFD heading frozen

I have the same unit about 8 months old now. I have had no issues and I'm afraid I can offer no advice but would like to hear the solution just in case. Good Luck

What are you using as a heading sensor

Two things. If you have a electronic compass connected up to the c90w that could be faulty.

Also at a point in time the c89w software disabled the use of COG to compute heading. They restored the feature in a later version . Suggest you check you have the most upto date c90W software.

Great thanks. Could the autopilot and mfd unit share an electronic compass?

Yes

Like GBN said, check for software/firmware updates, also a factory reset might work (remember to save all you waypoints/routes before a reset or updating firmware/software), manual will explain how to do this.

Yes , they usually would. Is your autopilot connected to the C90W. Ie can you send it waypoints to steer to ?

Raymarine MFD heading frozen

If you can verify your autopilot is connected. , ie it can steer to cursor or route waypoints then next Also verify in the data panel , that you have heading data ( though I suspect you have not ) then next off try a factory reset/reboot.

Factory Reset Procedure
Switch OFF the power to your MFD using the MFD's red power button.
After the MFD has been switched OFF, press and hold the left-most soft key (1) in while switching ON power to your MFD. Continue to hold the left-most soft key (1) pressed until the Raymarine Configuration menu is displayed. Release the left-most soft key.
Press the left-most soft key (1) to command a Factory Reset of the MFD. The MFD will report "Erasing FLOB system (30 seconds)".
After approximately 30 seconds, the MFD will report "FLOB Erased" signaling that the factory reset has been completed.
Press the right-most soft key (5) to exit the Raymarine Configuration menu. Doing so will also cause the MFD to boot up as it normally would and display the "WARNING - LIMITATIONS ON USE" dialog.

Note you will loose any user data like waypoints routes etc. you may have to re establish any particular user settings but unless you have a complex system , the defaults should bring it up

Thanks Dave the factory reset seemed to do the job. I'll know for sure this weekend when I get her out again. Cheers Oliver
