Raymarine MFD C80 to E80?

Dear friends,

I have on board a raymarine multifuncional display C80 but after years of heroic service it is about to die on me.. Now, i can get a Raymarine mfd E80. My question is: can I use an E80 instead of C80 (both raymarine)..Thanks for your comments.

What do you have hooked up to it?

Hi Amytom, thanks for yr reply. The GPS signal goes first into a Raymarine Chartplotter RC435, and then to the C80 (including AIS signal, Radar, Depth, NMEA plug).

I have the same situation. Will my current transponder and external GPS antennae also work with E80 ?

Re: Raymarine MFD C80 to E80?

You might want to talk to the Raymarine techs. I have a C80 MFD and it works with an analog radar, but not all analog radars. Recently bought a new to me scanner on ebay and when I hooked it up it would not work. Seller said they took it off an E MFD, so I sent it back. I had a friend that replaced his GPS unit on a power boat and had to buy an updated NMEA unit because the new GPS unit would not work on the older NMEA wiring configuration. Just my 2 cents worth.

The E80 will connect to all the same connections as the C80. The E80 also will connect to a digital radar. Tbe only possible issue is that an E80 weights more and is a lite deeper behind the face plate. It js a good unit which will also connect to a second MFD

Yes!!! I swapped a C120 with E120 and all worked fine.

Why not connect the GPS direct to C80?

Pieter - are you purchasing this on the used market? The E80 and E120 have both been discontinued for a while now, and are no longer supported.

The E80 will interface with radar arrays/radomes here.

It will also interface with AIS, but make sure that you upgrade to the last firmware released - anything earlier will cause problems.

I have the newer "e" series (not the newest eS series), and it's much better than our old E120 - faster, better resolution, better AIS integration...

Re: Raymarine MFD C80 to E80?

Hello Capn Jon, and thanks for yr comments. Yes, i am concidering in purchasing second hand unit. Best solution of course would be to upgrade the whole thing, but budget is not allowing this. I understand the fact that Raymarine is not supporting this E80 series, but ok... i guess i will have to take my chances on that. Thanks again and best rgds Pieter

The E80 would be a perfect upgrade in your situation. In addition, the E80 supports VGA output so you can display your radar image on a TV or on a small $30 car display that you can mount in the cockpit.
