I don't understand - the E120 does not have an integrated sounder, and neither does the ST-60 tridata. Since you say the two "transducers" are only 30cm apart, I'll make a guess that you may have an ST-60 sounder and possibly a DSM-300 sounder installed as well?
In my experience, the DSM sounder combined with a BL-744
transducer is notorious for losing the bottom. And since the E120 treats data received via the SeaTalkHS port with a higher priority than the "same" data, the dropouts you see are "normal". You can try enabling the
interference rejection option in the E120's
fish finder configuration setup and see if that helps.
Of course, I could be making the wrong assumption.
