Raymarine Autopilot and Garmin Compatibility

I am thinking about installing a Raymarine wheel Autopilot on my C&C 27 and driving it with my Garmin 840xs GPS. Both claim to be NMEA 2000 compliant but I can't seem to get a clear Yes or No to the question: Will this work? The main reasons I am thinking about the Raymarine is the ease of installation and cost. Does anyone have experience with pairing these two devices?

From my understanding you can connect them, But no you cannot get all functions to interface between the chart plotter and the auto pilot. But you can just set your ap manually to a course and compair it to your position on the chart plotter, But you cannot plot a course on the chart plotter and have the ap follow that. But thats my interpretation. Sorry.

Re: Raymarine Autopilot and Garmin Compatibility

yes you should be able to plot to a course.

you just won't be able to engage / disengage the pilot from the plotter. you'd have to use the pilot screen.

Is that for nmea 2000 only? My nmea 0183 garmin 440s works well with my ray st6001 ap. I can plot courses on the 440s and the ap follows no problem.

Smac999 can you turn your AP on and off from the garmin? Thats good to know that it follows the course. I know some functions work but not all and was not sure of what ones. Thanks

no. you still need the AP screen for most things. the plotter will just send it nav data.
