Raymarine a78 + standard horizon gx2200

I bought a new chartplotter combo and a new vhf radio with built in gps/ais with the intention of sharing the ais signal. Only one problem. I don't understand anything about these instructions on how to connect anything. Does anyone have any experience with this stuff. The chartplotter only comes with a power cable so obviously i need a cable...that will connect between the two. What type?

But i dont understand the difference between
N2k
NEMA2000
NEMA1083
Seatalk

Im assuming they are connecting/transmission types but still don't even know if this is even possible to intermix or if either type can communicate with each other!

Is it like saying diesel, gas and electric engines are alike because they are fuel but you just cant use whatever in each motor?

Can anyone guide me on connecting these units? I have searched google and still don't make any sense of it, PLEASE!!!!

If you tell us what equipment you have and what you are trying to do then one of the folks on here will be able to help you. In the mean time here is a little reading for you.

Your A78 is seatalk based however it also has a NMEA input. So you will connect your standard horizon to these wires. Located on you data/power cable of the a78.

Ah yes you only have a power cable. You will need this I believe:

Raymarine RAY‑E70196 VHF NMEA0183 to ST‑ng Converter Kit

The only question I would have is does this converter have the ais input wires? If not you may have to ask a raymarine tech for the best converter. It may be the NEMA 2000 to sea talk ng converter.

Yes but something like this is what you will have to use plus you can use it for other device inputs as well. All raymarine connectors are pricey.

The E70196 does not appear to the correct NMEA0183 to STKng converter for your configuration. This is a one-way device intended to send GPS data from the STKng port on the A78 to the NMEA0183 port on a VHF radio, not the other way.
It appears that Raymarine has adopted a 3rd party device from Actisense (NGW-1: NMEA 0183 to 2000) for bi-directional conversion between NMEA0183 and STKng.
I suggest your take your question to the Raymarine forum (http://raymarine.ning.com/forum) to get the specific cables you will need to send AIS and GPS data from the GX2200 to the A78.

So yes nmea1083 to seatalk ng it is !!but looking at the manual there are 3 types or wiring installations and that makes no sense to me which i would use ..could you advise? As of page 18 of the pdf on this link

Since it appears both the GX2200 and A78 have their own internal GPS receivers the only data you need to transfer between the two devices is the AIS data from the GX2200 to the A78. This should be done at 38,400 Baud, so it would appear the 38400 connection diagram is the one that is appropriate for your configuration, keeping in mind that a NMEA0183 to STKng converter is required at the A78 end.

I go to Milltech Marine . com to find tech things ( support ) . I just took my GX2200 out of the box & i see they have cables to fit the back of mine . I know they have diagrams to look at and figure your wiring. I'm going to forego the chartplotter and use my tablet, too witch i bought a GX2200 to USB cable for and i've seen the diagram for it . You can email them with your question & get an answer in a day or two. Steve.

No cable is missing. What i'm saying is , i can see the type of cable you need, if you go to Milltech Marine you will be able to see any type of cable to buy or not. You can also email them with your question and they can help you with the correct cable you might need . And all kinds of Tech questions of the marine verity .
