Raw Data to NMEA 0183?

The short version:
What do I need to get the raw data (speed and temp) from my Airmar DST800 to be NMEA 0183 for the chart plotter?

The long version:
I have a DTS800 with 7 wires--I know what part of the data they all carry-- and I want to send the the depth to my ST40 head (which I know how to do-blue/black/screen) and I want the send the depth, speed and temp to my JRC1800 chart plotter , which has a NMEA 0183 input. How do I covert the raw data from the 7 wires to NMEA so I can plug it in to JRC1800?

Thanks for your ideas and expertise.

What model DST800 do you have? Apparently they come in different flavours for NMEA0183, NMEA2000 and SeaTalk.

Re: Raw Data to NMEA 0183?

It's a DST800, with no NMEA, hence the need to convert the raw info to NMEA for the JRC1800.

The wire config is:
Depth: Blue, Black, Bare
Speed: Green, Red
Temp: White, Brown

Thoughts?

Re: Raw Data to NMEA 0183?

Well, this page shows 9 variants of DST800. It also has wiring links for all of them.

If it's not one of the smartdata ones, the simplest thing is to swap it for one of the smartdata DST800 models. Or you need to feed it to the intended instrument (eg ST40 multi-instrument type, which is apparently not what you have) that can process the raw signals and put out the required datastream for your JRC1800. I don't know of any stand-alone converters that aren't built into an instrument.

Only that you need to use Google more

I stand corrected the version for tack tick does http://www.airmartechnology.com/uplo...ams/91_631.pdf

I suppose yiu could use tactic kit to interface it , seems a bit of a kludge. , suggest swiping sensor

Re: Raw Data to NMEA 0183?

SOLUTION:

The solution turns out to be to send the analog data from the DST800 to a Actisense DST-2 (DST-2: Active DST Module) which converts analog input to NMEA 0183.

For anyone reading this thread in the future, the folks at Gemeco (http://www.gemeco.com/) were very helpful in solving this issue.

The parts are on the way, I will follow up with how it really works out.
