Can anyone tell me if there is a considerable difference in performance between the RD418D radome and the RD418HD radome - there is a big difference in price
( factor of 2!)
I can speak to this as I've had both connected to my E80s because of a mix up when I had radar
installed (I asked for HD they installed non-HD, then they sent me the HD and I swapped them, luckily on a pole not up the mast)
The biggest difference I noticed right away is that the HD color-codes the displays indicating the strength of the return. This is helpful/nice but..... The HD does show the landmass shapes a little clearer, which is more noticeable on the chart overlay, tho I usually us the split screen
I do believe the HD can resolve small objects (e.g., nav markets) better but maybe that's just me trying to justify the added $$ to the Admiral. We were on the move when I made the switch and didn't have the opportunity to go through the same areas with both units.
All that being said if you pm me I can give you the contact for the people that are looking to sell my slightly used non-HD unit they are great people and would likely make you a good deal.
