PS Report - VHF Radios

Best Fixed-Mount VHF: Icom M302
"With better basic audio and transceiver performance, the Icom M302 surpasses more full-featured competitors in our test of units under $160. Standard Horizon's Quest is a close runner-up, and Raymarine's Ray 48 comes up short. ..."

In Europe we can only dream of having VHFs at the price available to you in USA. Unfortunately the DSC standard is different, and without the correct CE mark, we get threatened with loss of boat for using a non-authorised radio.

The other problem is that DSC radios cannot turn of the alarms or even reduce the volume of them, so more and more people are actually switching off their radios in order to avoid waking up the sleeping crew. Personnally I will only switch to DSC when I am forced by legislation
