Programmable Android N2K Data Display

We can get all the data from our N2K networks onto an Android device via GoFree or various other solutions.

Why is there such a paucity of means to display it?

I have Triton and Maretron DSM displays, and the Triton is already much more versatile with the last firmware update.

But there are still all kinds of things I would like to display, which I can't, because it's not among the set screens for any of my devices.

I bought the DSM250 mostly for the weather screen, but it's not actually all that good. It shows a barograph plot, but doesn't give me wind over 24 hours which I would so much like to have. Or temperature.

It would seem to be child's play to write an app for Android which would allow one to configure any kind of screen. Then any Android device becomes an infinitely configurable display.

Has no one done such a thing?

If you wanted an app to show 24 wind temp Etc the phone would have to left on with the app open the whole time to record the data. It's not stored in the wind sensor itself.

The go free just emulated the screen. Differe t then putting n2k data into your phone. I'm not sure there is a way to do that it not.

GoFree doesn't just emulate the plotter screen. It also streams all of the network data. So for example INavX will display all of your instrument data, if you are connected via GoFree.

I don't know about Apple devices, but Android devices can stay connected and receive and store data in the background.

So there's no technical reason why this can't be done.

Re: Programmable Android N2K Data Display

N2KView isn't what it seems. To use it, you need an additional Maretron gateway and a license. It turns out to be pretty expensive for just viewing data. Additionally, their mobile apps do not collect or graph historical data - just immediate display only.

Maretron isn't very clear about any of that - particularly that it cannot be used without special equipment or a license.

Do you know if N2KView will display CAN bus errors, such as packet errors per sec or the type of error like stuffing error?

I don't know because I can't afford to use it!

N2KAnalyzer may be able to do that for Maretron products. I haven't looked at that specifically - although I know it presents errors with things.

I figured out you need a license, but it looks like you can use the mobile app if you have a license for the PC app - is that not the case?

And won't it work with a GoFree data stream?
