I should have noticed that. I would agree that if the problem has been persisting for 3 weeks it is probably not a solar flare issue. I've also heard that boat's radars can temporarily overload the satphone receiver, but this seems like a long-shot, especially for a problem of 3-week duration.

Keep us posted if you ever get more clarity on the data connection issue. We're navigating in 1 month and are planning to use the Iridium for weather. It worked well last summer, so I hope we don't end up with similar unexpected issues!

Had an hour's chat with the service provider. At his stage they believe that the main issue is a temporary network "overload," software rather than hardware. Other users are experiencing less than optimum service at the moment.

Also they are questioning the phone's own 5 volt power supply and the less likely possibility that the antenna cable has been pinched or twisted at some stage.
