Re: Possible to disable MMSI prompt on Std. Horizon VHF?

Similar problem here, the alarm goes off on me because I lost my link to my GPS. I can't figure out how to disable the alarm. Even before I lost the GPS data, my GX2150 will go into alarm when the GPS is off. I like to listen to the VHF down below when my GPS is mounted at the helm and I turn it off at night.

SH tech tells me that if you give the radio a voltage up to 6.5 vdc it will keep the alarm off.

I heard that same incident - And when a VHF rx's a DSC distress, it screams bloody murder. I was in the marina, my fixed VHF and my handheld are all alarming.

Worst was those boats in the marina with the VHF on but nobody around to clear the alarm. Sounded like a alarm clock convention for awhile.

Then the CG had to blab about it for quite awhile. Never did find out if it was a real distress.

????

If you supply it with less than 10.5V, I doubt the radio will work at all.

I think he's talking about simulating a GPS antenna signal. Not the main power.

I wasn't very clear. The "up to 6 and a half volts" is likely on whatever two of those little skinny colored wires are expecting that. You know, the annoying little bundle of wires I always coil up and ty-wrap up out of the way somewhere after hooking up power and antenna.
