Wow!!! I've used wspr with a laptop and ham radio before, stunned that you can reach Aus with a few watts but with just a Pi! Fantastic.

I know practically nothing about radio beyond programming microcontroller startup configurations for small 2.4ghz RF transceivers. Buying a boat was partially an excuse to start messing about with software defined radio.

For those retired software engineers who know what they are doing...we need somebody to run with this and insert a dynamic input for a GPS.
A lat and long to Maidenhead locator converter might also be required, because the WSPRnet | Weak Signal Propagation Reporter Network map only shows Maidenhead.

I think the RF power output level is also broken or throttled back.
For instance...a 10dbm initialization argument puts out 10 milliwatt.
But a 33 dbm argument also only puts out 10 milliwatt (not 2 watts).

The base frequency is very stable, but there are some harmonics...
These are very depressed, but could be depressed further with a low pass filter for the operating band.

I hit Europe from Chicago with just a dipole wire antenna.

Here is a suitable GPS module...
Also the Ultimate 3S kit looks very interesting and further developed along this path of WSPRing your actual dynamic GPS position.
Some assembly required, though.
You have to be a real ham and electronic hobbyist...
But you can build this, connect it up, stow it away, and forget about it.
Now your friends and family (and yourself), will always know where the boat is...
