Question- Can one send pictures ( digital photos ) by ssb/pactor or only text messages?

Yes, you can send pictures as email attachments without too much trouble, but you have to be very conscious of size. It can take 15 to 30 minutes to send a 50k jpg file.

The Pactor is capable of sending and receiving digital images, but you need to make sure your email service provider supports it.

Take a look at the Sailmail Primer. There are very severe limitations on inbound attachments because of the ability to use up all your connect time, but you control outbound attachments yourself and can send anything you dare. I sent .jpg's from Mexico with Sailmail, and know others who update their blogs occasionally with limited pictures included.
