Open CPN speed?

I asked this on the Open CPN forum but got no response because it seems like they only speak 1s and 0s over there. Pretty interesting stuff if you ever want a definition of the work jargon.

I can't seem to find a place where SOG is shown in Open CPN? Does it not exist? Is there any speed indicator?

Also what does the acronym TTG stand for? When I activate a route between two way points that is one of the parameters that comes up.

First you have to have the "status bar" visible. Click the "wrench" so you get the toolbox dialog. In the first tab "Settings" tick the " Show status bar" box.

The status bar is just below the chart.
Now, when a gps is connected your SOG is shown on the status bar in the field just to the left of where the cursor position is shown.

TTG is time to go to the next way-point or end of the route , depending on your setting at the top of the route dialog.

Hmmm thanks Thomas and 111000011000 to you too. But when I activate a route there is nothing in that space at all. Is it possible that I have an older version of open cpn? The one I have's icons don't look anything like the one's in the manual you linked me too, or do those just pertain to which OS you are running?

That info only comes up on mine at the bottom of the screen when the GPS is plugged in.

The newest version (I think) is 1.3.5 and I was directed to download it fromhttp://bigdumboat.com/opencpnbeta.html

I know what you mean by the 0001100 bizo. I posted a message about my first trip using it and after the trip said the things I like etc and didn't get a reply. Oh well. Developers are their own cuddly little selves

Its a good program though, so for thiose looking for a free nav program that appears to run better than many expensive ones then check it out....

Ah ha! I am glad I am not alone. It is a really good piece of software though.

And Yes I think I did have an old version, it was 1.3.2 Now the one I have says it is a beta version. I hope that is ok.

I have SOG now.

ETE - Estimated Time Enroute - is a more 'standard' nav term than TTG, for what it's worth...
