NSS 12 clock problems?

Fired up the NSS 12 the other day, went to check the tide and found it was stuck on a date several months ago.

Checked system clock, and it was showing 1999!

Strangely enough the UTC time it was showing matched our time zone. (+ 10 hours.)

Anyway, after rebooting, restoring defaults etc, the clock is still showing the locsl time, but the wrong month and year. 2099.

Called Navico Australia, and it seems I'm not alone. There had been 3 calls that day prior to mine, all with the same issue.

The locals had no solution. They said Navico is aware, and to expect a software update.

Anyone on here having a similar issue?

Re: NSS 12 clock problems?

Everyone is having the same issue Lowrance, B&G, Simrad. If it's a Navico MFD it's F*** Up.

This issue is all over the web if you want to get more info.

FWIW my NSE 12 is still just fine (touch wood). Makes me feel good that I didn't go for the new fangled touch screen.

Re: NSS 12 clock problems?

I am certain the NSE and the old Zeus(non-touch) are not affected. The problem is with all the touch screen stuff.

My initial statement may have been a bit broad....it is in fact ALL of the Navico Touchscreen MFD. I have literally seen at least one of every touch screen model with this problem.

It's unlikely it's anything to do with the touch screen, that's working fine. It's far more likely to be due to a software update. Navico is pretty good at releasing "buggy" software updates.

Re: NSS 12 clock problems?

The problem has nothing to do with the touchscreen. The problem affects the generations of MFDs with a touchscreen.

Re: NSS 12 clock problems?

It's a bug within the gps chip that is used, afaik. My Zeuss Touch is suffering the same malady

You might notice the gps symbol shows as red and not green even when position has been established.

Don't waste your time. If they are not messed up today they will be messed up soon.

I love my Zeus (my poor poor broken Zeus) but I say we BOYCOTT NAVICO.

Re: NSS 12 clock problems?

I don't think boycott is the answer... doesn't actually address the issue.

I think if everyone who has the problem actually report it to Simrad/Navico/B&G, with model and serial#'s... then maybe they will see fit to provide a software fix. It is not difficult to update the software if they can provide a working fix.

You don't even use the internal GPS. What do you mean "My poor poor broken Zeus"?

Sounds like the "Microsoft syndrome". I wonder if reporting, en mass, to the USCG would get their (Navico) attention? Sounds like hazard to navigation to me.
