NMEA2000 and GPS?

I've got an order Garmin chartplotter that I'm about to replace. Most new ones are set up with the new NMEA2000 interface. With my old Garmin and it's NMEA 0183, I could take it's GPS signal and attach it to my autopilot, VHF and SSB. I know next to nothing about the NMEA2000. Can I do the same with it. The chartplotter I'm looking at is B & G Vulcan 7,

Actisense makes a series of NMEA 2000 to NMEA 0183 adapters that should work if needed.

Actisense - Overview

I would check first to see if the autopilot, VHF and maybe the SSB support NMEA2000.

I am sure there are other adapter out there as well.

Re: NMEA2000 and GPS?

After numerous Skype calls(in South Africa) to companies and searching on the internet, I found out about the Actisense. Bought it along with an NMEA starter kit(plus a B & G Vulcan 7). Now I have to learn how to install all of it.
As for the 0183 stuff, my Icom SSB, Standard Horizon VHF and Robertson auto pilot only respond to 0183 so the Actisense will solve the problem. Now my Si-Tex AIS will work on either the 0183 or the 2000 so I'm going to have a mixed bag on board. Should be interesting. Thanks for the help.

Hooked up the Actisense just as the instruction manual said and Voila, I had NMEA0183 running to my VHF, SSB and Autopilot. Just that simple. Thanks to everyone out there that chimed in.
