NMEA to Wifi Client

A friend of mine mentioned recently he couldn't find an NMEA0183 to Wifi converter where the the Wifi is a client and joins an existing Wifi adapter.

I had a quick scan from a few I know and I couldn't obviously see it.

So I made him one from some gear i had been tinkering with.

But it occurred to me others may have the same requirement - be interested to get anecdotal feedback... maybe I should release my design.

Re: NMEA to Wifi Client

I've had a play around with something like that to see if it would work. Worked fine using an esp8266 logging onto a wifi network created by the openplotter software running on a Raspberry Pi and sending out dummy nmea sentences as UDP.

A cheap and low power way to avoid wires, the esp8266 devices are amazing for the price.
Some more examples out there...

Re: NMEA to Wifi Client

My Madman Marine NTWB2 WiFi Bridge can join an existing WiFi network (as well as acting as a standalone Access Point).

You can check out a video of the NTWB2 here:
